What it means to be a sustainable company
Sioen Industries is deeply committed to sustainability. In fact, our efforts go far beyond it. We view ESG as a source of innovation, competitive advantage, and value creation for all our stakeholders, making it one of the cornerstones of our company strategy.
We are in this for the long run. To ensure a better future, we have seamlessly integrated ESG initiatives into our overall strategy and into our vision: "Protection through innovation" and "Shaping the future of Technical Textiles".
Climate change and carbon reduction is at the top of Sioen's and the European Union's agendas. We continuously look into possibilities and invest in solutions to reduce our energy use, and consequently, reduce our carbon emissions.
ESG Approach & actions
Reducing our carbon footprint is essential, but so is measuring our progress. Improvement begins with understanding our current impact.
To achieve this, we have developed a framework built on five pillars, enabling us to take a proactive approach to ESG and to report with full transparency. On the Sioen CSR website and in our annual ESG report, you can explore our detailed approach and the actions we are taking in each area:
Environment
Human capital
Social capital
Business and innovation
Leadership and governance
Certified commitment
At Sioen, we follow internationally recognised standards to ensure transparency and accountability in every step of our process. Within the Sioen group, quality, safety, and sustainability are embedded into the way we design, produce, and deliver protective clothing. These certifications reflect a long-term commitment to responsible manufacturing — from the careful selection of raw materials to the safe and ethical production of high-performance garments. Each standard upheld is a mark of reliability and a promise to protect not only the wearer, but also the world around them.
STeP by OEKO-TEX® - Sustainable Textile Production
STeP (Sustainable Textile Production) by OEKO-TEX® is a globally recognised certification system that assesses and promotes responsible production across the textile and leather industry, including industrial laundries. It sets the highest standards for both environmental and social performance — covering chemical and environmental management, worker safety, fair labour conditions, and the continuous improvement of production processes. It's a way for textile manufacturers to communicate their achievements regarding sustainable production to the public in a transparent, credible and clear manner.
Sioen was the first PPE manufacturer to achieve the STeP certification. Sioen Apparel obtained the highest level (Level 3), confirming that our structures, processes and management systems meet the most stringent requirements of STeP by OEKO-TEX®.
A single company can bring about sustainable change. Have you ever wondered what a group of companies could do?
Every year, the Sioen group publishes an ESG report that summarises the company's social, environmental, and economic practices in order to become a more sustainable business. We are aware that this is a work in progress and recognise that we can keep on improving. But we are also proud to show our realisations and would like to thank you for taking this journey with us.
